Match report for Gala casino on 18/11/2006

Hi all, Without doubt the best venue we have held a tournament at so far.
Cut price parking, a free drink, free tea coffee and some soft drinks combined with excellent food and plenty of it.
All this plus luxurious surroundings and £350 sponsorship. I feel sorry for the players who stayed away.
Slight downside perhaps the cost of shorts. V.J. nearly had a heart attack when ordering his usual tipple, a double Bacardi and coke. He never recovered from the shock, lost his next game and was found wandering the streets of Bradford in the early hours muttering six pounds, six pounds.
Nice to see Slim back again, although it,s debatable if it was him. No drunken rampages, falling over chairs or challenging everyone to money matches. Surely this was not the best player this side of the pennines?
Also nice to see Peter Carter and his lovely missus out and about after their sad loss. Many of the players at Gala were asking why we could not hold the final there. The committee were already unimpressed with Paradise farm, especially as they had dropped the prize money from £200 to £50.
A word was had with the manager and the final is now there, complete with £200 sponsorship and food.
Apparently a few players said they would not be turning up next season as they did not like the idea of having 4/5 large venues and were not happy that we never played tournaments on a county date. For their information although it is not quite finalised there will probably be 7 large venues with 3 tournaments at each plus 3 smaller venues who offer large sponsorship.
Also the first tournament is likely to be on 20th January which IS a county date and there will be others. There is an A.G.M. coming up shortly so why don,t these moaners turn up and air their grievances?
Do not forget next week at Claremount. The Graham Collins memorial. A true gentleman of darts. Don,t miss it.
Onto the action – Paul (The ringer) Bellinger and Dave Wilson beat Steve (The Castleford tiger) O,donnell and Ian Haynes 2/1 in 21 and 20 darts over 20.
Prize money £48/£24/£12x2.
Not for the first time Sara Mortimer won the ladies comp. £25.
Main event – 1st semi Steve O,donnell beat Yorkshire captain and England international Scott(too hotty) Waites 3/2 in 22/18/16 against 17/17.
2nd semi Dazzling Daz Twist beat Brian (stato) Hallas 3/1 in 23/27/24 against 20.
In the final Daz Twist beat Steve O,donnell 4/2 in 20/19/21/18 against 18/23.
Prize money £200/£100/£40x2 £20x4.
The highest finish was shared between Scott Waites and Steve Kelly. 122 £10.50 each. Winning ticket holder Brendon (BJ) Marren £21.

See you at the oche The old campaigner
